Do you believe in chiropractors?

Nothing against them but just wondering who believes in chiropractors for routine adjustments.
I do not.

I believe that for the pinched nerve that used to bother me in my lower back that my chiropractor has helped me. I only went to him after taking a lot more prescription drugs than I wanted and physical therapy was not helping nor where the drugs doing anymore than taking a slight edge off the pain. My first visit I felt a lot better afterwards and by my 5th visit I was back to normal and the best thing was I got off the pain meds and was no longer higher than a kite 24/7. I like and trust my chiropractor and he has been doing it for a long time and I continue to get a couple adjustments a year just to be on the safe side, but I would be vary weary of visiting some random place at a mall that has a chiropractor sign hanging out front.

Random adjustments? Not sure. Pinched nerve? ABSOLUTELY!
I went through a similar situation to Fishtaco. My pinched nerve was causing unbearable pain AND making me randomly pee my pants (quite embarassing for a 20something female!
I only go when I'm in pain.

As long as the particular chiropractor is not one of the ones that thinks they can cure everything from the flu to a pinched nerve, then yes, I think they can be helpful. I had 3 ruptured disks in my back a number of years ago. A chiropractor insisted he could help me and after going to him 3 times a week for about 3 months I wasnt getting any better. I finally got fed up and went to see a neurosurgeon. He took some MRIs that showed the damage and said that there was no way in hell that a chiropractor would have been able to do anything about it. The chiro that I was seeing took xrays but never wanted me to get an MRI. I'm thinking that he knew that as soon as I got one he would no longer be able to treat me and didnt want to lose my nice little income stream.

For routine adjustments? Maybe. I stopped going because I found, for me, it was just a temporary fix. A few proper stretches at home does the same for my back. Oh and it's much cheaper!

I absolutely do, in highschool I had debilitating back pain, like miss school and work type stuff. Which means I couldn't get out of bed. Went to doctors that recommended back operations, and had several different doctors say the same thing.
Then I went to a chiropractor. After a few months of adjustments, and following his workout regimen, I haven't had the problems since.
Now, once I sat in a meeting where the chiropractor claimed (and I'm not exaggerating) he could cure cancer. Would only allow you to come to the meeting with your spouse, then proceded to hammer us as if we were buying a time share. It was pretty out there...

Yes Virginia, there is a chiropractor.
You should only see one if you are referred by a regular doc unless you know and trust the Chiropractor. There are still a lot of quacks out there.

Absolutely! I throw my back out about every two years, usually by simply bending over, not lifting anything...
MD recommended pain meds, muscle relaxants and spinal fusion if those didn't work. I know people who've had the fusion. It's expensive, risky and it doesn't work long term.
Chiropractor fixed the problem in four sessions over two weeks.

Adjustments do alleviate pain, misalignment, etc., however, I don't think they cure anything.

This reminds me of a little trick someone showed me today. They claimed that by putting a watch to someone's "third eye" you could weaken them.
It's funny how much harder you'll push on someone's arm to prove a point...consciously or not.
My friend claimed it was "Jewish Sorcery." I'm not sure how I feel about the odd prejudice comment. I think he was trying to make a point by sarcastically flaunting the word "Jew" and "Jewish." That's a completely different story. Maybe we'll touch on that a little later.
My point is that I definitely believe in the power of the human mind.
On a completely relative note, I've heard two separate stories about how great chiropractors are. I think it's an honest profession and would think twice before belittling it.

My chiropractor is my savior

My back and neck were and still are all banged up from a car accident. My Chiropractor has cured my lower back problems and middle back problems. The only thing is my neck and thats because its bent the wrong way.
I go once-a-month religiously!!

I have used them and I was a "meh" person, too. After seeing what the right chiropractor could do for my wife, I have a different outlook on them. She saw a chiropractor for a long time after her car accident 20 years ago and he was a money hungry crook and the results were....well, there weren't any. The guy she sees now explains exactly what he is doing and how it works. He does sports medicine at X games, too. She was reluctant to see another chiropractor after the first quack, but when she tweaks her back, he is the only thing that helps. Her MD wants to prescribe muscle relaxers and bed.
I'll give the good ones credit. So, I guess I do believe in them. Now, where's that Easter Bunny?
