Do you ever get so frustrated and say TAKE IT DOWN!!

This is a frustrating hobby/obsession. Some times I get overwhelmed with it. I read threads here about doing this or that and sometimes I think to myself WHAY AM I INVOLVED in this crazy money burning hobby/obsession. I could go to a casino but on red and have a 3 to1 odd of making money. Instead I buy salt and test kits and coral and fish only to have one die here or get eaten there. Then, ... then you buy a critter and it brings ick or some other parasite home with it. and your tank is potentially screwed for life. WHAT A GREAT relaxing hobby. Thanks for letting me vent and does anybody else have these feelings time to time. Have a Happy ICK FREE New Year

Yes I do.....I just got over an ich ordeal....only took me 2 months....Then the fish that introduced the ick mysteriously died (taking out two others with him earlier on) after everything was back to normal.

eh i dont. everythings a learning experience. i justify it by saying that i could buy a nice couch or something, or i could have my reef tank. which would i rather have? its just a couch. i mean, EVERYONE has a couch.

You said it my friend, its like anything else. At times it can be no more then luck of the draw, spin of the wheel or toss of the dice. But the more we practice & educate ourselves the better we get...

I think I was ready to tear it all down 3 or 4 times during the first day of setting up my newest tank, it's Very frustrating and expensive, but more socially acceptable than a crack habit.
And then...there comes the time when all the electronics are working as they should.... your fish are happy and your corals are growing and you look at your beautiful tank and say..."Honey....What do you think about getting a 180 gallon?"

PS: Alix has a point, it'll never be just a couch.

Wasn't totally pleased with it being out there, and motocross and riding all summer just took it's toll......Just taking a break and planning, scheming

till I can work all the details out for the 4' wide tank which will go in family room where the other tank wouldn't fit......My wife doesn't know it yet......

Nope, I could never purposely take down my tanks when they're doing good. It's like bulldozing a neighborhood.

when its doing good i am glad and hooked like a crack head but when its bad which has been about 3 or 4 times and everything is dying...when my tank was crashing i told my g/f that if 1 more fish dies its ALL sold....then the skimmer over flooded i said ITS GONE!!! she talked me in to keeping it and trying to do it better then the hose came off the return i said a whole STRING OF CHOICE WORDS the entire day i was cleaning the mess and moving the tank and i said this ish is GONE!!! but its still up and going now with cyano ....but a few weeks later i get the itch to go to a fish store and see something nice or come here and see someone else awesome tank...and the cycle starts again

yep i think we all get like that from time to time...my dilema..friday before xmas..my son decides to drop a whole bottle of pepsi in my tank..sat afternoon tanks cloudy ( white ) so i jet on over to my lfs one i normally would put all faith in! he said " wow, seeing as some put sugar in their tank, i would think it would be ok" well guess what we went and did a small water change..sunday..still cloudy but looked like it was clearing up, of course changing carbon and filter pads..monday christmas eve and my 14 anniversary we come home 11 pm to a bunch of dead fish..3/4 of my corals shot...so from 11 to 2 am..mix emergency salt..take out all corals i could fit in the 10 gal..we..snails all dead ( another emergency water change but on the 10 gal..so doing a amm reading..( and we still dont understand why) the test came out " blue" go figure..any ways tues thru thurs ( by now i've had it..tear the dang thing down..and just walk away..with a amm reading than of 4.0..or higher, i hate the color charts! i go and buy new salt, water and do a 41 gal water change..bringing it down to 1.0 after 12 hours.. do another chage over the weekend bringing the amm down to .25 and than couple days ago no amm..trate or trite presant.. yesterday added what lived crabs..so far so good...its times like this you wonder if its really worth it..but once your addicted..your hooked for life!!

stories like that make mine not seem so bad after all.
But you just never know what's gona happen next.
I think maybe it's the challange that makes it so addicting, if it was easy anyone could do it

Your main problem is thinking your chances of making money in a casino are 3 to 1. They're closer to a bit less than even. Now go out and get a new fish and you'll feel better. Or even better, order online and you get a few days of anticipation excitement!

I want to take my tank down right now because im moving. Last time i moved all but one fish died. And that was in spring. Now its winter and the temp was 3 yesterday.
