I see lots of "delas on the net for MH ballast and light kits but I haven't seen any that list what the Ballast manufacturrer is and the model number of the ballst. I have an in at a electrical supply store. What ballast types are suitable for marin use. Are any MH ballast ok that are rated for the right wattage? or are there special kinds of ballasts for different bulbs? Can the bases be interchanged? mogul, double end etc...

try www.advancetransformer.com as this is the supplier for the ballast used by Aguaticlighting on the DIY MH set up. I am getting three of the 250w ballasts (#71A5770-001D) for my 135g reef I am currently setting up. These are coil/core ballasts and I currently use a 175w model on a smaller tank with no problem.

i have seen that there are pretty much 3 or 4 manufacturers of ballasts. Venture, Advance, Blue Wave and um some other one I can't remember. Then there a bunch of companies that package the ballasts in a fancy metal box with a switch, a capacitor and ignitor(if needed) and say theres is better than someone elses.
Whitch is obviously not possible if they use the same components.
This is why I wanted to find out what the actual ballasts are not the big fancy box everyone gets. (thanks hondo) I see lots of references to the box manufacturers(re sellers) but not many to the actuall ballast manufacturers.
Does anyone else run advance ballasts?
David, Great sounds good. I can't hardly wait to get it.
