I have had my anenome now for about three weeks. Everytime I try to feed it, it dosnt take the food..it will stick to the tenticals but it never closes up and intakes it. Ive seen and read where you are supposed to hand feed it a couple of times a week. What do you suggest? Also my other question was, do you have to it or will it servive off of the micro-vert that I add to my tank...along with the other supplements?
Also I forgot to add that it opens fully and has great color. I have 3 250w metal halide lights and 2 vho's
Its a long tentical saebe??? I think?? :help:

if you have enough lighting you shouldn't have to feed it.
If you have a clown that host it the clown may feed it for you, my GSM does. He gets a few flakes for the anem then a few for himself.

I never target feed my Bubble Tip. Occasionally some small food will float into it, but I think strong lighting and good, stable water quality do more for them than anything else.
What are you trying to feed it?

Wow! I guess i've been doing it wrong all this time. I feed my RTBA a small piece of shrimp or cube of frozen mysis once a week. The RTBA gobbles the stuff up. Maybe that's why mine split into three! :notsure: My clowns don't feed the RTBA. As much as I would love to see it, my clowns never bring food back to the anemone. They eat what they can and that's about it. Hope i'm not harming them.

I'm new to the anemone thing, do you actually put frozen not thawed mysis shrimp in the tank for it to eat? Just drop it on him? I have always thawed my frozen stuff for the fishies. Can I just toss in a frozen cube for all to fight over?

if you put a frozen cube of food into your tank you are taking a risk of putting a ton of phosphates in there. If you look at the ingredients, the first ingredient usually is water, but there are usually a lot of different phosphates in there. i generally thaw it out in a cup of warm water, then dump the water into my net over the sink, then put the food into the tank.
i also feed my bta's the same mush i feed my sun corals, fish, and crabs. my clowns do not take care of them so someone has to.

I have 3 anemonies and feed them thawed krill & silversides 2-3 X's per week.
My GSM pair feeds them all but have to drop the food as close to the anemone that I want fed. She will feed only one if the food is dropped in that one area.

Pretty funny to watch. :joy:

Didn't know about the phosphate thing. Should I be doing that for all frozen fish food? You would think that the manf would take that into account and use only RO water. :notsure:

i do it with all frozen food except the stuff i make. its not the water, its the vitamins, and other chemicals, that they put in to make the food good. read the ingredients :)
