If you ever witness the funk they pull out of your tank I promise you will go get one, not to mention reduced tank smell.

Personally, I'd never considering having a tank w/o one. Like people have said, once you've seen what they pull out it no longer is a question.

but it is not a necssary thing to have right off the bat is what I was told. not much to skim in brand new tank, is that right? anyone know how long one should wait to get a skimmer?

My skimmer made a world of difference!
Also it is recommended to get an oversized rated skimmer for a couple of reasons
Incase you decide to upgrade one less thing to buy
It will pull out more stuff from your water

Reccomended.. I think they should be needed for any tank. Fowlr do without one. Reef.. I dont think itll work in the long run.

i am new and dont have one, i got told you dont need 1 with a mud sump, but i am keeping an eye on levels. everything fine at the moment. also it would of been cheaper to get a skimmer than a mud sump
