Do you need to light makeup saltwater?

If your makeup saltwater sits in a closed bucket with no light for over 48 hours will it hurt it? I have powerheads running in the 10 gallon container that the water is in. Can it go longer than 48 hours with no light? I just don't want to degrade the quality of the water.

I have a 30 galllon trash can sitting in my basement that is used only to make and store saltwater. I continually keep it covered because I have two cats and don't want their hair getting into the water. What your doing is just fine. :yes:

the less light the better as too much light can promote algae growth.

I only have my PH on for a couple hours after mixing and then I turn it on again 1 week later (along with the heater) until it reaches tank temp.. Then I use the water.

I always keep it (32 gal. trash can) covered after I'm done with the mixing.
