Was just curious how many of you out there thaw fish food. Have heard arguments for both sides. Makes sense to me to thaw it, because well... Fish don't eat Frozen Shrimp Pops in the ocean. Thanks for looking. ***)

I thaw frozen foods in a small container that I put tank water in and also a few drops of vitamins.

I also thaw in tank water and then store any leftovers in the fridge..for no more than any 12 hour span.

Exactly how I do it. Sometimes I strain it through a net in the sink to reduce the nutrients in the tank. But I always use the tankwater and make sure it's thawed completely.

I thaw Mysis in RO and strain through a fine net. I don't know if I am washing anything good away, but I am trying not put any extra NO3 or PO4 that may be in the food liquid. I do use tank water when I run the RO res. tank empty.

this is a really good idea... never thought about straining it before...
i just roll the cubes in my fingers in the tank and let the little pieces float away... now that i have read this i think i will do it this way though unless there is something wrong with it...

I thaw and strain mine, because I've heard that you can get too many excess nutrients in the tank if you don't.

I used to just drop in the frozen food, the fish didn't seem to mind. but I got more brine in my fuge than my tank. So now I thaw and dump and the fish get more food that way!

I put frozen cubes in a fine net and run cold water over it to thaw. Then onto plate and add vitamins or garlic elixir. In the refrigerator for 30 minuts to soak. Put food back in net and dip in main tank to try to get wet before fish go crazy. I unplug the surface skimmer to reduce food lose after I dunp food in. Takes a 2-3 max minutes and food is gone. Plug back in surface skimmer and done.

I feed a variety of foods to my fish.....when I use silversides or krill, I thaw them as I am chopping it up into smaller pcs. but when Im just feeding frozen mysis shrimp or Prime Reef cubes, I just hold and rub that in my hand under the water in the tank until it breaks up and then release and swish it around...thaws in a few seconds. Been doing it like this for years.
