Do you think the tank is ready?

I just upgraded a 28 gallon that was running for about 6 years with 30 pounds live rock and 30 pounds live sand to a brand new 40 gallon setup. The 28 gallon tank was neglected for a while so it had less then desirable water conditions. I moved all the sand and rock and added about 30 pounds of new sand. I moved about 15 gallons of the water and added 25 gallons new fresh saltwater. Iv'e done a few water changes over the past week and all my water readings are 0 except nitrates which is about 5. There is a little bit of brown algae on the sand and on the rocks. Long story short, do you think its safe to add a small clean up crew or do you think my tank will re-cycle.

hermits are pretty hardy as are damsels. Snails, stars, and other fish require good water quality! How long has ur new tank been set up? I should have waited a good month but threw in 3 chromis from the 2 week mark.

So it has been set up one week????? I would wait another week and as long as your levels stay 0...get a small cuc...
Sounds like you just did a large w/c...LOL....the only thinkg I would be worried about is what you carried over from the old sand....and what was on the old rock that helped to make the water undesireable
any life in there at all????

The rock is covered in hundreds of tiny feather dusters and probably around 80 tiny shrooms. The reason the water was bad cause the tank I rescued probably hadn't had water change in about a year.
