Do you use a UV sterilizer?

Once again in a reply by you Anthem you do not awnser the question. Do you use a UV sterilizer? First you attack BlueMarlin for his comment. Then you proceed to ramble on about your experiments and throw out contradicting statements. I do not think it it's worth its own thread to tell you this, so I'll tell you here. To awnser the Threads question, no I don't. Just never took the money to buy one and tank has done great without one.

The whole point of a forum is to get other people's reasoning and viewpoins on a topic. I gained a lot more insight from Anthem's post than any of the other responses.

From what I've read, they are great if you don't have LR or LS. Since I was givin one, I'm using it and spending the $ on fish that I would have used on LR.
How do you determine when you should change the bulb?

I don't use one and probably never will since my tanks are doing very well without one. I have three yellow tangs and a tomato clown in a 105g tank, I subscribe to the garlic theory and started feeding garlic soaked foods the day I introduced them to the tank. I have had no ich in 5 months on my ich magnets. I also have 3 other tanks that are doing well without a UV sterilizer. I don't want any of the fish that say you must have a UV sterilizer in the comment section, if I did I might think differently.

I have usually used them in the past but am currently torn on whether to use my 25 watt Rainbow/Lifeguard one on my new 125 system. The concern is the good stuff/life that it kills along with the unwanted pathogens... I will probably not take any chances and go ahead and use it for at least 6 months or the lifespan of the bulb and then reconsider whether to continue using it. By the way I have 4 tangs and yes I know about all you out there that do not advocate keeping more than 1 or 2 tangs in a 125g tank. You do it your way, I do it mine! And... Anthem I like your lengthy answers, even if they do occasionally have a gestapo flair to them. (You seem to have been at this a while so I ignore your style of communication and concentrate on the wisdom you share with us all...) Thanks, Joe.
