So far so good.

I use DT bought it at a lfs in franklin square long island its about $ 15 a bottle and also bought some kent photo. I'm not sure if it is working , I can see it getting to the corals if the power heads and returns just blow it around. Maybe someone has a suggestion how to feed. also I was told not to use it that offen because it fouls up the water, I dont know how true or not.
but my corals are doing fine , mushrooms are starting to grow.

The only reason I started this thread is because I read a post in which 2 people thought using phyto was worthless...I really don't know if its effective or not since I have always used it.

To say phyto is a waste makes no sense??? filter feeders eat it......how can feeding things be a waste? Don't try to over feed with it though though.......you'll see negative effects, not more growth. I wouldn't use the dead phyto stores have sitting on shelves at room temperature...DTs and other high quality brands have LIVE phyto, and need to be in the fridge.

The use of live phytoplankton is one of the best advancements in the hobby I think! On top of the animals it DIRECTLY feeds... it starts the food chain and feeds many other beneficial bugs that in turn feed corals and other things. To say it is USELESS really has no merit anymore, but some people do have successful tanks without it of course. Use it though and you'll see a difference.

Marine snow is a waste of money IMO.it is nothing more than DI water..........I had some links to the specifics about it but can't find it right now.I do use DT's though and have seen some nice results since I started using.

While my tank did fine without it years ago. I've been using it for a few now and in moderation has made a positive impacked on growth of corals and sessile filter feeder(that indirectly feed my corals) in my tank. But that's JMO.

Pretty simple poll....easy to answer...I use it. Have for a few years. It is a vital source of food for filter feeders and as stated provides an important link in the food chain of a healthy thriving eco-system.I've never used any "phyto plankton" product other than DT's so I can't compare results of one product over the other...but I do believe regular additions of DT's phyto Plankton have been beneficial for "my" system.

From what I have heard/read products like DT's are good for filter feeders like clams but the Plankton used in these types of formula is too large for SPS to be effective. I have heard of research that supported that SPS will draw in a little of these types of planktons but release them with out consumption? But like they say, don't believe what you read and only half of what you see! If it is working well for you who cares what the researchers say!

Can anyone tell me what DT is? Like what is it short for? I know it's a product that contains phytoplankton, but can anyone give me more details on this product? Thanks...

Here's their site...they get into particle size a little in one section, but you can look for yourself and decide...I really like their product and have used it for years. I tried cheaper dead phyto sitting on the store shelves before, and I won't again. I didn't even realize that it was just dead phyto at the time.

Photo-plex
T Photoplankton
liquid gold
S&M
Coral-vie
as additives

I think it is all a waste of money.. Sure I have used them. I noticed no diffrences. Most of the tanks I see now that would make me say WOW use nothing at all but water, light, and a little food for the fish. If you reef tank is healthy and mature, it will produce it's own food.

I started using Marine Snow. Noticed a difference in my corals as soon as it started circulating in the tank. Haven't found any DT's in my area, so I'll have to order some and give it a try.
Remember that most of the time we speak from experience. Some things work for some and not others. Unless we all use the exact same setups, there will be variables.
