If hyacinth are anything like ponape birdsnest, be careful about too much light. I had to move my ponape down to 26" below T5s to make it happy.
It is now going bat snit crazy with growth.

If you provide very strong waterflow the branches will grow thicker but more spread out. I think they look best with thin tightly packed branches but the middle tends to die off due to lack of food and light from being covered by the outer branches. As a result they should be fragged fairly often.
I think the thicker more sparsely packed Birdsnests tend to stay healthy longer as a mother colony.

hey slice can i see your ponape birdsnest
Somehow, when you say that, it sounds so.....dirty.....
This was over a month ago, it has grown quite a bit since then

When I first put it in the tank up high, it slimed and slimed. After a week the slime started to brown and I thought I was loosing it.
It then started to loose it's coloring and I moved it way down, only about 5" above the sand. It colored back up and took off.

My Birdsnest colonies can't get enough light. I have four 250W MH on Lumenarc Mini's over a 6', 135g tank. I also have two Magnum 8's and a Koralia 4 blowing the water around pretty good.
Interestingly enough, the bright pink one was grown from three 1" frags that I salvaged from a large colony that was way more spread-out (started to RTN). The frags grew into each other over the past two years into the tightly packed colony you see here. Looks much different than before. It also stays bright pink even underneath.
The other colony is some kind of Ponape hybrid, but not a true Ponape.
