I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it, but I'm almost positive they were getting some really bad press somewhere.

thats understandable...
But ophiura and squid have good points... there are other interim solutions.... and idk how much LR he had but that would be helpful to have..... I have no chemical filtration on my tank( other than the carbon that i run once a month in the magnum 250) and my levels are fine... so you have to look at who this is coming from, this person has 500 posts and states little experience..... You dont NEED a filter on the tank if its set up correctly.
Kinda got off subject but i thought i should add that little tidbit. Not flaming anyone though...
I personally have no problems with their products and have ordered replacement parts from places other than the company. I would wait for some more opinions.....

I have no problems with their equipment either. I had a fresh water for some time and used filters form them, none of which had a problems. I have a emperor 400 on my 135g for bio with no problems either, but I do have LR in my system.

All good here.
We have an emperor 250 running on a small cichlid tank that works great. I have the emperor 400 on my 30g reef upstairs and love it. One of my friends has a penguin filter he isn't happy with, and my ex-girlfriends penguin mini doesn't work the best (biowheel has issues), but as far as their high quality products go, I'm really happy with them.
Also have 2-3 heaters all of which have held up and are pretty nice.
Just my $.02

I have a penguin 350 and a pengiun 200 and they are crap. I also have a seaclone 150 and 100 they dont work worth a S. I have gone through 3 hydrometers, The weight inside falls out. I have emailed and called Marineland and no response back. I give up on there products all-together. Just my experience.

I'm sorry your experiences havent been as good as others. I wouldnt recommend the Swing arm type hydrometers though..> Get a floating glass one or a refractometer...

Yes, I have a Penguin 100 that I use in my 20g tank. After 1 month it either stops working or when I do get it running again, the pump has a hard time pulling enough water to keep the Biowheel spinning. It will be thrown away soon...
