I was just mentioning an option.....you can pick it off, or smother it with epoxy.....

Most corals we keep, come from significant tidal regions, where the daily tide is measured in yards (well, meters) not inches. These corals are exposed to air for extended periods of time. Some like SPS are exposed for hours at a time.
Get a 5 gal bucket, set some eggcrate on top of the bucket. One piece of rock at a time, set it on there for 15mins. Do all the rock, then monitor the sponges for die-off.
