Does anyone use an AquaMedic T1000 Skimmer?

Just looking for someone that uses the same skimmer, wanted some advice. I bought it used and am still trying to tweak it... Thanks...

Uhh I had a used one for about a week and never got it up and running. It was missing some parts and I contacted Aquamedic and they sent me the parts i needed. What did you want to know?

Well, first I cant seem to get enough pressure from the pump... I had it up and runniong for 4 hours, teh pump would push water into the skimmer, but never enough to get the level or the foam to rise above the body. I tweaked it for hours and nothing... Also, the water intake on the tube from the pump to the body is pushing water out, not taking water in... I have it in the sump, with the pump submerged, but was wondering if anyone has ever ran it as a stand alone seperate from the sump. The pump (Oceanrunner 2500) says it can be run either way, but was hoping someone had a pic of how they have theirs set up... I bought mine used as well.

Well the ocean runner pump is used for circulation only. You have to have a separate pump pushing water in. The pump feeding the water in should be between 100-250. Or you can have it running from you overflow to skimmer. Which I would not do.

Oh and yes you can run it out of the sump. I almost did but it leaked, but the guy from Aquamedic said you could. But it wouldnt fit in my sump so i had to run it out of the sump. If i could have put it in the sump i would have.

So the ocean runner is for circulation only? That makes sense... Now I see why its not working properly... I was told when I bought it that all you have to do is run a piece of 3/4 inch tube off the pvc intake tube and its running... A second powerhead feeding it makes a lot more sense... and seems to explain why I dont have enough pressure to actually skim anything... And the instructions make a bit more sense now, I took it as you can use the OR2500 or a powerhead not both... Did you run the carbon box attachment? I have it, but I am torn between using that and getting 2 phosban reactors and running carbon in one...

You mean the bio ball box. No i would not. There is mixed reviews about bio balls. They are great if you keep them up. You have to take half out and clean them, then put them back in then take the other half out months down the road and clean them. If you dont then it will create a nitrate trap. And my old tank went to crap because of trates, so i dont want to chance it. What i do in my sump is I have my Prizim skimmer(which i am replacing), and an internal filter with carbon on it. Carbon is not necessary but its good to run every now and then. And a sock filter over my pvc draining into my tank. you kno to catch all the food that isnt eaten.

I didnt know it was for bio balls, it mentions nothing in the pdf maunal I have. I have a filter pad and carbon in it. Thats what I was told it was for, running carbon. I was gonna swap in and out carbon and phosguard bags.

Yup it originally comes with bio balls. Carbon should be fine. but carbon bags can become nitrate traps too, so be sure to change them, which im sure you will
