i am currently on assignment in the virgin islands, and a buddy of mine is taking care of my reef tank back home in florida. i have a 55gallon with about 80lbs of live rock and 50lbs of live sand, two 150 watt halide and two 30 watt actinics. he recently told me that all over my sand, rocks and glass little shrimp/flea looking critters are showing up. he said that they are particularly interested in a clam that is in the sand. i saw a few of these guys before i left home but it was only every now and then that i would see them, they are about 1-2cm long and are a greyish/white almost clear color. they have little tiny antennae and like i said look like a cross between a shrimp and a flea. my tank is about a year and a half old. im not at home so i cant see all of this but hopefully i have given enough information. if anyone knows what they are bad or good and possibly a way to get rid of them i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

i first started seeing them down im my sump about 6 months ago. we had to move the tank to my buddies house when i left and they were inside some of the rocks. i had a unicorn tang in the tank at the time but he got too big so we moved him into a 90 gallon. since then i guess they have been going crazy and multiplying, would the unicorn have been keeping the population under control.:notsure:

Surfer - I am no clam expert or even close, I'm not bad at bugs but what you describe is a little to large, 1 to 2 centimeters for your normal pods to be.
I would suggest that you start another thread that will catch the eye of clam keepers like "clam in trouble" or "Whats eating my clam"
Sorry I'm of no help here.
