Dogface puffer on Koralia

My dogface has started doing something strange. He lays on top of a Koralia 4
that I have in the tank. He just started this today.
He seems very healthy. He has always been timid but he doesn't seem to be afraid of anything in the tank.
He's kinda fat and is not being sucked into it from weakness. He gets off of it when I clean the glass and when it was feeding time.
Should I be concerned by this? I remember seeing a dogface at a LFS awhile ago that seemed to be stuck on the drain valve in the tank. but that one looked really bad and very skinny. I'm worried about my buddy!!!

does he have any spots on any of his fins? have you notice any scraping? I have a pretty fat dogface myself I have a cross flow in front of mine only fish that goes near it is my valentini puffer..I would say your puffer just likes the feel of water, you may want to add more flow in your tank, don't know what type of tank you have I have a FOWLR and have heavy flow going in one direction, my dogface only stays mid to lower of my tank except when I feed, I hand feed mine so only time he comes close to the top of my tank..

I noticed a lot of puffers like to sit on powerheads. The behavior is normal, just make sure he doesn't get sucked in or injured.

My Valentini Puffer does that all the time. He lets it suck him onto it. I think it likes the flow of the water and I'm pretty sure it sleeps on the thing sometimes. I've had him for a long time, but I thought I lost him a while back. He wasn't eating and was hiding in crevices in the rocks. I didn't see him for two days and thought he was taken by the circle of life, but after the two days he appeared. He seemed thinner though, usually he's pretty fat. I think it was one of two things. He either stole and ate too much of the krill that I feed my purple lobster and giant CBS pair, or he got some kind of parasite from laying on the powerhead. I think it was probably the former, but the parasite is always possible. I don't see him sticking to the powerhead as much anymore. My powerheads are all covered in coraline, but you never know what else could be lurking within.
I have a Koralia 3 and two Koralia 1's in a 75g.

I don't think it's possible for him to get sucked in. He's still small but pretty chunky.
I haven't noticed any white spots on him.
As for flow I have a Koralia 5, 3 Koralia 4's and a spray bar.
He's acting normal except for his new found love with the Koralia.

I have a Large Puffer too, he does the same thing. I would say its pretty normal

No he isn't getting stuck. I got to see him get on it tonight. He just hovers above it and lets in slowly suck him down. Like a helicopter landing.
It was really funny. And my niger looks at him like he's nuts. lol

wow, I just got a dogface puffer, the first day he was cool, swimming around and eating everything in sight lol, now all he does is stick to the overflow box. I thought he was dead until I turned the overflow box off and he swam away, the next day I looked at him stuck to it again and he was sleeping lol is this really normal?

Like sitting on it, just chilling. Or upside down, sideways, not doing nuthin?

he sleeps stuck to the overflow, he fell in love with it and that's his favorite spot lol he comes off to eat and swim around a little but right back to the overflow he goes. He is not sick, shows no signs of stress, he has good color and looks fine, guess he just likes the current of the water going over his body. I think he ate too much the other day tho.

What about at night? They're usually pretty nocturnal. How long have you had him? What are you feeding?

well last night he got off of the overflow box and found a spot in the rocks, this morning he was up swimming around, I've had him for about 4 days now and he has been eating good, I was feeding him live brine and krill... today I'm getting him fresh shrimp and scallops.

oh ok, so you've only had him a few days. (keep in mind everything I say is a generalization) But it usually takes a few days for them to get to normal in a new tank. Usually they'll sit there and hide somewhere for a few days. Just kind of chilling.
They won't do good on just brine and krill. So fresh shrimp and scallops are good. Mine really liked oysters on a half shell, and fresh sardines.
I don't know what you've looked into and not, but start reading about caring for puffers; it is a pretty involved experience. At least properly. What you can get away with and what really should be done are 2 different things. But I do have to say that was definitely my favorite fish. Most interactive, most fun to watch. I hope you have a biiig tank.

Yeah I have been reading up on them a a lot, the tank is all set up for him, salinity temp, ect. I have a 125 gallon built into a wall, you can see through the tank from the living room to the kitchen, so he is going to get a tone of attention. I will say he has a big personality... he finally stop sitting on the overflow and is swimming around, so everything seems to be okay! thanks for all the help I got from everyone, I will be posting pics of the tank soon!

oh one more thing, I was wondering is it okay to pet then on the head, he seems to like to come to the surface and stick his head out a little.... I want to pet his head soooo bad! lol
