Jeff, We have a D Damsel that turns white occ. Ours acts normal though. Is there anyone in your tank that could be messing with him? Lisa

Does this color change only occur at night and when the tank light is switched on and off? I have 2 (3) stripe damsels that turn to a light gray color as the lights are turned on and off. I have also seen this occur when they start beating on each other- one will hide up in the barnacles and turn all gray. So maybe your domino is doing the same that mine does but watch it carefully for any other signs of stress of weird behavior.

Fish can regulate their colors on a regular basis.........I have a Flame Hawk, and obviously his name denotes his very bright red/orange color, and at night after the light has been off for some time he can become pale and a little white. I think it mainly when the fish slows down and gets ready to sleep.
Another reason is the lack of variety of diet.....any fish can loose color. I would suggest some type of small pellet food with spirlina (spelling) in it. This usually helps with the fish's color. I recommend Vibra grow....my flame hawk and anthias eat it like its going out of style.
GOOD LUCK! :)
