Don't it make you mad when people LIE

Hey I answered an add in the paper-25 gal tank w/stand and all accessories 50 bucks. I called talked to the lady, asked her if it leaked blah blah blah. She said oh no I have fish in it dosen't leak. So we went out-she had it all broke down-it was a little dark in there but the fish were right there in a container next to it-so we looked it over-looked good-there was water on the stand but I fig. it was from her draining the tank. Paid her the money got it home-was dark by then so i waited until the next day to deal with cleaning it up and so on. (the fish went to my brother in law's house) Next day I was cleaning the tank-and i thought humm there is alot of rust on the top of this wrought iron stand-so I filled the tank (out side on the deck) and low and behold it was leaking from every where bottom-top sides.
I was not happy-I called her-no responce, I thought why didn't she tell me...she had to have known it was too obvious. So instead of fighting with this woman about getting my money back-which she could have said we damaged it when we left-I just went to wally world and bought some of that aquarium sealant. Took me 4 hours to scrape all that old sealant off and reseal it- I have resealed tanks before and they have lasted-matter of fact I still have a 10 gal I use so I'm confident in my job. But boy what a job and it stinks too. Moral of this story make sure when you go answer an add in the paper insist that you look at the tank full of water before you buy it! I wouldn't have wanted to reseal anything as big as a 100 gal or more-thats for sure!

Honestly, I would never put a used tank into service without scraping the silicone out and re-caulking the seams. Its not that hard and will prevent a mess and potential loss of livestock. I'm sure the lady did know it was leaking and shame on her for not being honest, but after having my 92 corner spring a leak after 2 years, I wont take the chance of a tank leaking if I can do something to prevent it. I recently put a 13 yr old 90 gal back into service and while it was a job, it wasnt all that bad especially since we got the tank for free.

I agree...thats what I have done before, her carpet must have had alot of damage-not to mention the floor under it and 50 bucks is cheap enought for a 25 gal, stand and fish. The tank was a fresh water system so all the fish and accessories went to my brother in law. I sanded and spray painted the stand-looks brand new-older one but solid. On an interesting note the albino frog that was in it is as big as a fist-I have never seen one that big in my life. The pleco was atleast 7 or 8 inches long and two little zebra tetras. She must have had them for years, also had glass substrate-anyone ever see glass used as gravel?? That must have been why it leaked-the silicone was all poked looking. Oh and before I forget any one have a safe method for getting hardwater stains off the glass?? I have used a razor to get most of it off-but it's on there pretty good-anything I can use? Any sudjestions would help!

You could try and fill the tank with a vinegar and water solution and let it sit for a few days, it might be enough to soften up the buildup. There are stronger acidic solutions like CLR but I dont know how fish safe they would be. Probably wouldnt be a problem but I couldnt say for sure.

With the vinegar use baking soda as an abrashive... but remember it will foam when it comes in contact with the vinegar

The first and best. Vegas vacation is the abomination, wasn't done by Lampoons... but it had the hottest Audrey.

Oh ok yea thats right wally world was a fun park! Ha ha ha! Thanks guys for the hints on the hard water stains-most of it was on the out side any way-I got most of it off on the inside with lemon juice! (my mom gave me the idea too) It must have been leaking for some time to build up so bad on the outside. Yea I tried calling her again just to let her know, I know and not very nice to lie to people-but she must have caller Id. Ah it's not worth my energy anymore-but great news tank has been filled and running now since last night-no leaks. Yesterday afternoon I painted the back black-looks great! Thanks for all the comments!
