They did get along fine until I put seaweed in tank to feed them. Then it was first come the rest catch me if you can.

I have a red sea wave master pro, hooked to 3 max-jet 900 in my 120.
I love wave action. This is a great product.
IMO Maybe should had smaller power heads or hooked up 1 at a time.
why the noise. your guess is as good as mine.
Better luck next time.

I would blame the Rio pumps before the wavemaker. Rio's don't do so good on a wavemaker.
I have a wavemaker hooked up to maxijets and it's awesome!
While back, I had put Hagen powerheads on it, and they didn't do so good either. Some PH's weren't made to turn on and off so often.
Sorry you had a bad experience though.
