TBH, I haven't had any problems with it at all. I actually really like it. Keeps the tank very clean.

+1 on the 1 week a month...I usually wait a day or two after the water change as well. WM Research makes a good activated carbon. Smaller the grain size the better, will give you more surface area which means more crap pulled out.
