we purchased a juvenile the other day w/ green coloring...we were wondering what other peoples experiences have been w/ these and about what behavior qwirks they had noticed...we basically know it will get a good size & will lose the "horns" at some point & that it loves to hunt live invert food like copepods...appears will burrow beneath the sand and loves to move pieces of LR around

wow, jakob, it sounds like you prety much have them wrapped up in a nutshell, the biggest quark that i know of, is they are slightly aggresive and love to rearrange the rocks for you :D

i had one, he was my chicks favorite fish. he moved all of the little rocks around in my tank into neat piles. then he would move the piles around. very personable, I would never put one in a reef tank , but i am going to set up a smaller tank that i can have one in.

dragon wrasses are very active. they love to eat as juveniles and as they get bigger they turn brown with their sharp teeth sticking out. i put a couple handfuls of coral rubble and it will pick up pieces and pile them up. as adults they will turn over roks to search for food.

thank you all for your responses...hey sammy, did you end up w/ one being green as juvenile & if so, will he maintain the grean as adult; the loss of horns & frilly fin look is regrettable, but the cool patern around his eyes that gives it that overall evil despot ruler look, more than makes up for it...yep, everything so far sounds just like him; have not had a chance to observe him sleeping yet; he really loved stalking those ghost shrimps though; way it eats, we were afraid it would quickly decimate the copepod pop, but there still seems to be many many of copepods; seems like just about everything we put in there munches on them...
how quicly do they mature into adulthood??? I hope not as fast as the niger trigger is <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I have had mine for 2 years. I bought him as a juv. He was green, now he is green brown. He has not lost his horn on his head. The only change in him is his color and size. He is growing fast. Like everyone else has mentioned he goes to bed at the same time every nite and gets up at the same time every afternoon. He sleeps in the sand. (I have 4 1/2" DSB) He piles all the litlle rocks and shells on his area. He moves my hermit grabs to his area, I have not noticed him eating them. He cathes ghost shrimp and beats them on the lr. He does'nt seem to care about anyone else, he just does his own thing. I think he is really a cool fish, I bought him not knowing anything about him, impulse buy :D
