Driftwood

I was just wondering how you make driftwood? Alls I have read is I think you just put some of your aquarium water in a bucket and soak the wood in there for a couple of weeks or something.
I really don't want to pay $10 for a piece of wood for my freshwater tank.

well it takes a lot really drift wood has drifted in the ocean for a long time before comming to rest on the beach. trying to make it wouldnt work the same as free floating in the ocean. not sure exactly what it does to the wood but soaking it in water for a long period of time will just rot it. the soaking part your seeing is to get all the brown and particulate matter off the wood. as it has completely dried out before we get it once it goes into water again it will absorb the water and turn the water a muddy brown.
I say if you want drift wood its better to buy unless you have a beach close to you that it washes up on.

I was thinking that you can put wood in a bucket of your tanks water. Then you wait a couple of weeks to get bacteria in the wood and so it's stays under water. This driftwood is going to be for the new angelfishes
that I'm going to be getting.

doing it that way the wood will slowly rot. Not sure what the saltwater does to it while its in the ocean but it doesnt deccay not sure if its the type of wood or something to do with the salinity and temp while its floating or both but soaking regular wood in the tank will start to decay and fowl the water pretty bad.
