Sorry to jump in...just wanted to throw out out there that glassholes sells black overflow boxes for pretty cheap.

I checked their site but couldn't find one...I wasn't sure what to call them though at the time, so Maybe I just need to "re-search" it as 'overflow box'

ok I found it
But they are really expensive compared to what I want to do. The 700GPH box is $50, not including shipping.
A specimen container and a krylon fusion paint will me >$15

yeah that is what happened...then I went back and edited my post

Well I'm only a couple days away from ordering everything to put my overflow in. I've decided that I wanted to try to incorporate a fuge into this. I think I'll have enough room for 2 10 gallon tanks, and I was thinking I could connect the two with a union piece. I would split the overflow into two outputs because, after doing some reading I realized that I would have too much flow going through the sump and would defeat the purpose of it.
And hopefully somewhere down the line I could get a madarin dragonet.
All the PVC is 1"

Plans look good....Make sure you don't get a lot of splashing coming back from the fuge to the return section. It will produce micro bubbles and your return pump will suck them up and pump them back to the tank. Looking at the diagram you could save a couple dollars, and only use 1 valve on the fuge feed side.

I was thinking the same thing with the valve, could turn the T sideways so its going straight down to the fuge, then add the gate valve below the T, then whatever doesnt go to the fuge will go to the skimmer.

I had a new idea....moonlights =P.
I found this on the big auction site. 45 LEDS already assembled into a strip.

The lights span about 35 inches which would be great for a 4' tank.
Color: blue
Voltage: 12V
Number of bulbs: 45 SMD LEDs
Wire length: 35cm-45cm
Strip length: 90cm
Self-adhesive back with 3M double side adhesive tape
You can cut the strip shorter if it is too long
water proof and flexible
Since the it says voltage 12v, does that mean I can just wire it to a 12v DC adapter?
I was thinking it might be too bright, but I dont know....has anyone ever used something like this?

I also have a strip of moonlights, but not on a strip like that, Good find. Mine are 48' so it goes all the way across.

SO I ordered my hole saw, 3 bulkheads, and the LED strip today....and out of curiosity I've decided to find the sticker on my tank. I had never looked before because I was going under the assumption that very rarely will a 55gallon tank have tempered sides. Found out my tank is 15 years old >.<....that explains all the scuffs. But the silicone looks good, not cracked or dried in any area....Juan really outdid himself. (AGA)

I found this, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this would work or not. I would strip the ends of a 12v DC adapter and screw them to the input, and screw the LED light strip to the output?
It sounds good to me in theory, but I have a bad habit of misunderstanding things, lol, especially when it comes to electrical work.

Supply voltage: DC 12V
Dimension: 94 x 64 x 64 mm
Static power consumption: less than 1W
Output current: less than 8A
Output power: 96W
