Dsb With Playsand And Live Sand.

I have a 5 inch DSB. When i first setup my tank my LFS told me that playsand from home depot would be good, so i got some and the bag said the sand was screen, wash, and silicia free. I also add 2 inches of LS to cover up the tan color of the playsand. The tank has been up for 8 months now and for the last month or so i have been fighting cyano, so i added a sump/fuge and that seem to help with the cyano, but the cyano went from red to a brown slime look (stringy) but i also have some blue/green spots in there. All of the slime/cyano is only on the SB and little spots on the glass of the tank more of just above the SB. Also have some in the fuge but only on the glass. Is this because of the playsand? If so what would be the best way to remove the sand? If i leave the sand in there will i be fighting this forever?

Did anything die in the tank? How much do you feed the tank? If you overfeed this can cause these outbreaks. How many fish do you have?
All of your parameters seem fine other than the cyano.

Since i added the sump i lost a yellow face goby and a green chromis. The green chromis got hurt i think by my 2 tomato clowns not sure what happen to my goby but he looked to be real skinny ,that may have been to the reduce feeding. So now i am down to 1 big yellow tang,1 blue jaw trigger,2 tomato clowns, and one bar goby. I also have a mix of zoas, mushrooms, xenia and a frogspawn and a big CUC. Everthing is doing real good except for the problem with the DSB/brown alage could this be a diatom bloom for adding the sump? It is really not that bad but im not sure i want to keep on going on (adding more corals)with this tank if im going to keep on fighting the battle.

Give it some time and keep up on your water changes. It should go away in time. Do you use RO/DI water to top off and do water changes?

Yes i do i get it from my LFS and i have test it everytime before it goes in the tank. Im just concern about the playsand. Update: everything still looks the same.....not better/worse.

If I were you I'd get my own RO/DI system. You never know when they changed their filter last. They may never have changed them.
