dsb...?

I have a mixed bed. When I started my tank, I was stupid and did not visit this board. Well, actually, I did everything wrong, because I always do everything now, and I will deal with it later. Well, now is later. I want to change my cc/lf bed to a dsb. Should I try it at a risk of a major catastrophe, or should I try small changes, or can I just cover my old bed with new sand?

When I added my sb I took down my tank and moved everything into ice chest etc.. and put my new sand in then put a bucket in the tank and poured the water in the bucket and let it overfow into the tank to ( to prevent major sand storms) after the tank was filled up removed the bucket put lr back in and then fish and went thru a mini cycle and lost no one
