Durso question: gurgle, belch?

My RR tank 90g Bow has a Durso style sump return -flex hose - (not kinked in any way or strangely twisted, it comes straight down and runs a soft 20 degrees to the right into the right side of my sump), running a Mag 7 back to the tank.
Problem: every few minutes there is a flush through the return tube from the tank to the sump, it sounds like a "flush-gurgle-belch" and then it goes away for another few minutes. There is NO pattern at all, I cant time it like a geyser.

I assume it is air caught in the hose...?
Remedies? Can you unhook the darn hose to release air, and if so...wont it just collect air again?
thanks!!!

Is there an air hole or vent in the system? Sounds like it needs adjusted......pics might help a bit though

there is a hole on top, I have tried adjusting the entire pipe up/down. Still gurgling in strange intervals! Seems as if the water level is fine, no obstruction of vent hole... puzzled!

Looks and sounds like it is draining faster than the return. Try moving the overflow (durso) up a little. That one looks adjustable.
Either that or if you have a valve between the pump and return, close it a little.

If you look into the overflow area, can you see the water level going up and down? Gurgling when it gets to the lowest point?

YES! excellent question you asked...: looking into the overflow area, the water level drops about 3/4 of an inch...then it gurgles and water level rises. This process repeats.
I cant raise the Durso any higher, it is at its highest point possible, I can lower it with ease, so I know it isnt stuck.
Suggestions? Do I need a stronger return pump than my Mag 7?
Many thanks!

Could be that you need a stronger pump. But the durso should be able to come up higher. Unless you were given one for a shorter tank.
Is this an "old" tank or fairly new? If there is some blockage in the top hole, it will do this same thing. The downflow may need some more air.

Looking at the pics again....when you lowered it, did the gurgling stop?
Try with the top of the 90 degree tube at the top of water level in the overflow area.

YES! Gurgling has subsided with the Durso lowered! the peculiar thing is for the first week the tank was running there was no gurgling and then "poof" one minute it began. I made no adjustments or mucking with any equip. it just decided to grow a personality and gurgle...funny, how we add life to the tank (fish, inverts, corals) but the filtration system as it matures takes on a life of its own....
