Dwarf Angel Question

My tank 38 gallon tank has been establish for a month and a half. I want to add a flame angel as my last fish. Does that tank have to be a certain amount of maturity before i can add an angel? Also i currently have 2 false percs and a yellow watchman goby these will be compatible with the flame angel right.

compatability will be fine. this also is won't be too many fish. If you have enough live rock the flame angel will be fine. however, some might say that 38 is too small for a flame angel. i tend to agree but not strongly. even though these fish are small and stay fairly small, they might need more swimming room. what are the dimensions on a 38 gal?
if you want red in your tank, instead of the flame angel you could go with a cleaner shrimp or some kind of pistol shrimp to pair with the watchman. maybe a strawberry basselet. anyone else have input or ideas?

i was really looking to add another fish other thank a shrimp. I do have a camelback shrimp in there now but i dont know if im going to keep him since i will be adding corals i heard they eat them so. If not the flame what are some other bright colored fish im looking for a red or a blue

just like a 55gal but 1 foot shorter huh? you might be able to do the flame. you might want a second opinion though. strawberry bassalet(purple psuedochromis) are on sale from this site. they can be aggressive, but you should be fine if this is the last small fish. maybe a six line wrasse. they are very colorful and active. oh yeah, what about purple or red firefish. you could get a couple of those.

maybe 3 blue reef chromis. do you like the royal grammas (sp)?

i think that if you have enough live rock and good filtration then you could. you only have three fish right now, and they will be pretty small forever. the chromis also will be small. i don't think 6 very small fish is too much for a well maintained 40 gal tank. i wouldn't rule out the flame angel or the six line wrasse though. two purple firefish would also look cool. how much rock do you have and what kind of filtration?

fish load will depend on clean up crew, water changes, filtration, live rock, substrate, and testing your water. i personally don't think that 2 perculas, 1 small goby, and 3 blue chromis would be too much if you have things right.

my cleanup crew consists of 2 bumble bee snails a turbo snail and then a variety of hermits about 10-12 total. I have a 2 inch sand bed and i do 10% water changes weekly. all my levels have been perfect lately except my phosphate was a little high which i am working on lowering so i can add corals within a month or so.

good idea to take things slow, especially with the fish. i would say add your rock, then add the fish a couple weeks later. do you have a clean up crew? also a skimmer is a must if you have a big bioload.

yeah i wasnt planning on adding a another fish soon. I wanted to get all my LR settled and have my skimmer before adding any more fish and corals. My tank has been very stable i dont want to disturb it. I just wanted some ideas on what i could add

sounds good. get your rock in and your skimmer going, then add the extra fish when you know things are stable. when you say established for 1 1/2 months, do you mean 1 1/2 months after it was done cycling? if you mean 1 1/2 months total, thats okay. just keep it slow.

one and a half after cycling.
actually my tank only took about 2 and a half to 3 weeks to cycle

good. things will go fine for you i'm sure. good luck on the future fish. i wish someone would give you a second opinion on the flame angel.

I think a flame would do ok. They stay pretty small and it sounds like you have enough rock to make him feel comfy.

Personally I disagree. I think that if you have 4 fish in your tank after 1.5 months you are stocking too fast.....let your biological filtration catch up.
I also think that you need to add more LR. You say that you have 10lbs. right now, and will be adding 25lbs. soon. Still not enough, IMO. Angels are voracious grazers, and require mature LR....
Speaking of tank maturity, your tank is only 1.5 months old. I would definitely wait to add anymore fish, but especially a Flame Angel. As I mentioned above, they are voracious grazers, and will need mature LR to graze from. Newly cured LR just wont do the trick, IMO. Plus, tank maturity brings water stability (hopefully).
Also, you mentioned that you are planning a reef eventually. Keep in mind that not all Angels are reef safe, and are hit or miss when it comes to reef compatibility. I'd say that if you add any Angel before you add corals you have a much higher chance of the Angel nipping at any corals introduced after the Angel. JMO

i think that he has decided to wait till he has his 50 lbs of rock, skimmer, and some more time under his belt before adding the angel. 1 and 1/2 months would be too fast, but it was stated that he is waiting for a while before adding this fish or whatever he will add
