dwarf lions

I think a 5 1/2 gallon is pretty small for one clown...let alone 2. Especially cuz you said yours was already 3 inches. I have 4 clowns in a 40 gallon (not by choice...2nd tank crashed) and although they are 'okay' now, I doubt they will be for long. I had my female maroon in an 8 gallon and when she grew larger it was too small for her to swim happily. I'd rethink the clown in the 5.5 gallon idea for the bioload and just room for them to swim comfortably.

I have a snowflake (about 20-24" big now and fat!) in my 40 gallon with 2 false percs and 2 maroons (3 of the clowns are larger...one tiny) and so far no problems. I'm more worried about the clowns getting along! (mind you...these fish are not all in together on purpose...I had a second tank crash and had to put them somewhere until I decide what to do).
I have had some smaller fish disappear since the eel ended up in there, but they were ones that stayed near the bottom or slept/hid under the rocks.
I've had a snowflake with a maroon a few years ago and also had no problems. I think it helps that clowns swim and tend to sleep higher in the tank instead of down under/around the rocks where the eel hangs out and hunts.

Nope...I actually got it off this site. I first bought it some smaller frozen fish (don't remember kind...but smaller than silversides) and then bumped up to the silversides. I have to make sure to either use a feeding stick or make sure they get right near the eel though as I have a serpeant star who LOVES the frozen fish as well. hahaha...but I've seen the snowflake take a piece away from the starfish too.
It did take a week or so before he ate, now he eats every other day or so like a pig! When he starts popping his head out or swimming around I know it time to feed him before he gets another fish. So far I think he's left my inverts alone (but not sure as I have a lot).
