ookay i have a 55 gallon tank and i was wandering about a stand. or course my parents have something to say about it. they say no way to it due to the possibility of a leak accuring and 55 gallons of water landing on the floor. am right that i think that building one would make it stronger than one often sold at retail pet stores. would love advice.

It depends on what type of material it is made out of. the pressed wood stands are not the way to go if you don't want to water the carpet. you can most liklly biuld one stonger and cheaper than some out there

let me tell you that, that was my exact concern when i upgraded from a 70g to a 200g. not only did i save 2-300 dolars by building my own buy it looks better. and im way more saticfied knowing that the structure that i built will hold over 2500 pounds. (the only way i know that is my dads and engineer and we did a caculation of one 2x4- if that makes sence)

i built my first one out of 2x4's and then wrap it in oak. very strong. my first one we went way over board, it was for a 29 gallon and i bet i would have held a truck lol
if you dont have good tools and wood working skills it may take a bit longer but chances are it will be twice as stong as the very basic pine stands most LFS sell

yeah thats what i thought. should the best way to build one is to make 2 box frames on each side and 2 in the front and then just support them majorly input is valued thx

ll_____ll________ ll start with two like that and those will be the top and bottom and then use 2x4 for support. thats the only way i can show you without haveing mine on a schematic to show you. hope that kinda helps

Look on the internet for free stand/canopy plans. I found several great sites just by typing in aquarium stand plans. Good luck. :happyfish
