Will anything eat an anenome that has died or is dying. I have 2 emrald crabs, 12 turbo snails, a maroon clownfish, a scooter blenny, a sandsifting starfish, bubble coral, Xenia, and mushrooms. The clownfishe's anenome has disapeared. Do you think something ate it?

well first of all i wouldnt assum sumthgin ate it. but then again how bid was ru anenome?. i ahd a small bubble tip and i came home form school one day and saw my chocolate chip star was over near him. i didnt notice untill feeding time that the satr was right on top of him and by then i ripped him off but he had already mostly consumed my poor anenome. but with the fish and inverts u listyed i believe he just went to the back of the aquarium over ngith and foudn a better place to live fro a little whiel look throughlt through your tank for any signs of swaing tenticles. and if you can look from the back of your tank.

Anemone's are extremely hard to keep, with the exception of the bubble tip. I had three in my reef tank and as soon as i put them in the started wandering around. Just keep your eye open for him, and you will probably find it.

he may have shrunk himself and crawled under a rock. just a thought. my condi full was a good 6" and would shrink himself to the size of a quarter and hide in the rockwork.
crazy bout salt.....slow down with the typing man, please

hey crazy...ur typing needs some work! It's very difficult to read what you type...spend an extra minute or two and proof read what you type. No one can benefit from what you have to say if we can't understand what you are typing! thanks a lot.

I found the anenome. It moved to the back of the tank but it does not look all that good. It is opened up very wide but it arms have become very short, are not moving around at all, and som of the arms are turning a dark color. BTW this is a bubble tip anenome if that helps at all. Do you think it is dying? If it does die will it release toxins into the water?

I have a esmeral crab too in my tank, and it killed my anemone, regal blue tank and my orange spotte goby and ate them,,im trying to get it out of the tank but its so hard that i just give up.

mlm,
If by some chance your anenome does die one day, it will turn into (best description) a pile of jelly. I had my purple hatian die on me and all I found was the jelly looking stuff sitting on the floor of the tank. I have a bubble tip now and it was acting the same way.
Basically what are you feeding it? I feed mine DT phytoplankton, frozen brine, and silversides. They will move arround in your tank untill they find a place where water conditions are best, so check your tests. I cannot say this enough because it was my #1 mistake. Even just the salinity being a tad too low will effect them.
As for the clownfish not going near it, that would be because the fish knows that something is up, and doesn't want to stress the anenome or itself out even more than they may be IMO. HTH.

Were you feeding it frequently? If you dont think its going make it, take it out, they are very hard to remove once they turn into that "pile of jelly". GL

Im new with the anenome and everyday I think that mine is dead. I have to get use to the fact that they curl up. Ive heard a good way to tell if there dead is that they turn into jelly and are sticky. I have a condi by the way.

I have a sebae anemone and I have never seen it directly eat even when I try and put silversides near the center of it. I think anemones are a waste of life and money to put in a closed system.

Captive prop anemonie. there a local guy who clone @50captive rose bubbles ayear. Anemones are nice additions if you meet there requirements. try feeding it . If it eats probally good. i would add an anemone unless it was captive prop and your tank was at least 7+ mo. a year would be better if its a new tank. if you upgraded or have years in the hobby well then that may be different if you have some reef keeping skills. If you buy wild make sure its from a good retailor and a hardy typre to begin with. But alot of ppl shouldn't even attempt wild. JMO

I found the anenome all the way in the back of the tank behind the rocks. It is not getting much light at all and it is impossible for me to feed it where it is. What should I do.

If it is healthy it will find its own spot, and you cant stop it. I dont think yours is healthy, and feel it may have gone to a nice quiet place, where it wont be bothered, to die. I hope this is not the case.It may even move again with time, try blowing some brine shrimp towards its location with a syrenge, that is the only way I can think to get food to it.
Sorry Im not more help.

You just need to hang in there. Anenomes need good water quality and a place to call home. They will move around the tank until they find just the right spot. The best thing you can do is to read up on the type you are trying to keep and see what it's needs are. I have 3 different anenome's in my tank. A bubble tip, A sebae, and a haitian and they are all doing well. It took about a week for the haitian to finally plant himself. The Bubble tip found his home in 2 days. The sebae took the longest, about 2 weeks. I feed them chopped fish and shrimp and they love it. Especially the haitian. He eats the most. Hopefully yours will make it. They are fun to watch when they are well.... Good luck....
