Dying Clam?

I have had a coracean clam in my 75 gal tank for about 1 1/2 years now and the yesterdayday it just stopped opening up. I checked all my levels and everything was fine except for some reason my pH went down to 7.8. After noticing this freaky change, I added a pH buffer and raised it back up to 8.3 hoping that my clam would open up again. So far it hasnt opened up again. It is inside its outer shell and i can just see the outer lip of it anymore. Is it dead. Or is there anything I can do to nurse it back to health. Also my eligance of 2 years is closing too. Are their closings related in any way. All the rest of my corals, frogspawn, button polps, and shrooms and doing good as of right now.
WHAT CAN I DO!!! I LOVE MY CLAM:nervous:

A PH swing is not good for a clam. If it's closed and not opening, that could be good. It means it's still alive. An open clam that won't shut is when you should really worry. Their is nothing else wrong with it right? No pyramid snails or anything? You can only watch it for now and see.
Also my eligance of 2 years is closing too.
Elegance don't fair well for the long haul in a captive enviroment. But their is a study being done right now by Eric Borneman. They seem to swell up and just die. I have no personal experiance with them though. I don't think they would be related, unless again it's the PH swing.
Hope I helped.:notsure: ,Dan

I looked at the clam this morning and it was still shrunken in its outer shell, the same as before. But after I came home from school it is completely gone. WHERE DID IT GO!! It is just an empty shell now

ohh... sorry to hear that, i think your clam is dead.
When your ph was that low... that probably what was killing it then, and when you increased your ph so high and so soon.. that is most likely why is perhaps died.

Many people run very successfull reef tanks at a PH from 7.8-8.0. granted 7.8 is about as low as you want to go! a drastic Ph swing is really not that big of deal either as long as it is in an exeptable range. (7.8-8.5) People dose tons of bionic every day and shoot there Ph up .2-.4. You need to be looking at something else as your culprit.
Specific Gravity swings?
long periods of time with a low ALk?
Have you added anything to the tank?
predator snails?
The PH did not kill your clam
