I want some ricordia. Is there a suggested tank size? Where do you all buy your ricordia and what would be an expected price?

Really tank size dosen't matter since you can get very small ones, I buy mine online and prices reflect colors....green are cheap, while the blues and orange are a little more, you can get single or double mouthed. A small colony of green could run you about $10.00 plus shipping...one double mouthed orange about 20.00 plus shipping. shipping I would do over night this time of year..in warmer weather you can do 2 day priority and they do fine. The shipping is what kills you on the price...if you have a LFS you go to that carry an assortment of colors thats great, but around our neck of the woods I'm lucky to even find rics at the LFS. I have a great site that I go to, good prices and best shipping prices, all colors...If you are interested email me.

I buy everything local to St. Louis. Sometimes some local reefers have them for sale and that is usually cheaper than the LFS. Rics around here are usually around $10 a polyp if they have decent color. Most of the colorful florida's I see top out at $20 a polyp. Really colorful yuma's seem to be a little harder to come by and they can demand a pretty high price (I've seen over $100/polyp). But if it's just average colors (which are still good) it's still going to be around $10 a polyp.

BTW, I suggest not falling into the trap of being charged double for a double mouthed ricordia. My first yuma rock had a huge double mouthed polyp on it. The polyp still has two mouths to this day and it's been over a year and a half. It has dropped about 20 babies off of it's foot though.
It's not 2 polyps until it's two polyps is what I'm saying.

Ricordias are NOT a high light demanding coral. I have one in my 5 gallon at work under a 20 watt PC and it has grown a lot and split twice.

Agree...

In fairness, the info mattmc gave is kind of relative to what "a lot of light" means. I mean, PC's are a lot of light compared to NO's. And MH's will benefit some rics. But are not a requirement for any IMO unless the tank is very deep.

I am interested, but at this point in time could do nothing with the information. I'll find this thread or you another day when i'm not so screwed over, stressed out, or broke. Then maybe i'll be able to spend some money on something that'll make me happy - not bills.

I've got about 75 to 100 rics. About 75% are yuma's. I've rarely fed them. Mostly because they would rarely eat the food in the past. Lately I've tried again and some of the florida rics are eating now. None of my florida's spread even close to as fast as my yuma's. My yuma's are my fastest spreading coral. So I'd like to get the florida's to spread faster if possible.
I'll squirt some vitamine enriched live brine on them from time to time and they tear them up. My ric's multiply and then travel through the tank due to flow. Alot of them end up behind my tank but the ones I catch I glue to rocks.

Just tested water:
Amm: 0
Ph: 8.1
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:10
Temp: 79
Lighting is: 65w 10k and 65w actinic (for a 46gal). The coral is positioned about 12" from surface.
Any ideas of what to do or what to expect?
not to get off the subject but your trates are 10, i try to keep mine at 0 now.
I got my chaeto going ~ 3 weeks ago and my trates are 0 now.
just saying a fuge is one of the best things you can do for a reef tank.
I know this really isnt related but figured i would chime in anyway!
