we have power outages for days at a time sometimes. how big is your tank? if your really worried about heat loss you can wrap it in a blanket.

Maybe you can call the electric company and ask them to not cut off yours?? Aren't there people on ventilators and medical stuff that they need electricity?? Even in their own home?
That's the craziest thing I ever heard.
What city are you in anyway?

im guessing the people on medical equipment probably have generators anyways, in case of power outages. i mean if they didnt, wouldnt you hear about hundreds of people dying every time the power went out?
but yeah, i agree, call the power company and see what you can do.

I think it's crazy too. That said, you shouldn't have to do anything at all to your tank for an outage that's only one hour.

That is the most asinine thing I've ever heard of. The city is forcing you to celebrate Earth Day by cutting your power? I work in computers and if my city ever did that there would be hell to pay! I have equipment at my job that has to be running 24/7. I have UPS systems on it all, but those dont last for an hour....

It won't be a problem. I've been without power for a week or more after hurricanes Katrina and Wilma and I didn't have an issue. Of course these are fish only tanks. If you had a lot of money invested in corals it would make sense to have a generator on hand. I've also got several small battery powered aerators I use for holding bait in live wells. I've used these before in tanks when power's been out. In the future, you could also run your air pump and filter off a power inverter and a deep cycle marine battery.

Can you get ahold of a battery operated air pump? They are commonly used to keep bait alive when fishing.
