Echino feeding

I have heard conflicting info on the feeding of echinos. I have read both yes they need to eat, and no, they don't. Some describe long sweeper/feeders that the coral will send out at night, but mine does not do this. Even looked one night when I was up at 3am, and no tenticles were out.
Although my echino does have a visible, and fairly large mouth, I cant seem to get it to 'eat' anything. Could it be a species that does not need targeted feeding, or is there some special feeding technique I should try?
Thanks for any help.

could be just be the coral being a different type of acan other then echi.
could just be your missing them. could be yours just does not feel the need.
what ever it is one things for sure. you can feed your acans but you do not have to. I have not fed mine directly in years. great growth and color
