I was thinking about getting a eclipes 37 gallon tank or a 46 bow front petsmart brand tank for saltwater. Which would be better?

I just bought a 46 gal bow front this evening. I haven't even had a chance to do anything because I didn't have room for the stand. I'm going to get that tomorrow morning. I had a 20 gal and it was driving me nuts because of the small size. I can't wait and if I were you I'd go with the biggest you can keep. If I had my own place I'd go into the 100 Gal+ tanks. It's such a hassle to upgrade later.
Just my 2 cents.

The 46 bow front looks great. I have 40bls of live sand and 22 lbs of base rock with a little red and green algee. It has been set up for 10 days, the sand is covered with brown cotton candy looking algee. At what time do I know the tank has cycled and I can put cleaner snail reef kit in?

Congrats on the new tank, bow fronts are my favorite!!
Have you been testing the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? What did you use to start the cycle? Just need some more info from you..........
What are you thinking of for fish?

To start the cycle I used 40lbs of live sand and 22 lbs of base rock that had a little algee. I have not tested anything because I dont have a tester yet. I am getting one this week. I am buying a 12 gallon saltwater tank that has been up for 5 years and transfering it to my tank. He has a little coral, sponges, mushrume, 3 fish and clearners in the tank.

Hiya,
I've had a 37 gallon eclipse now for over a year and love it. Bought the lighting upgrade right at the beginning so I do have compacts in there. I don't keep a lot of high light required corals, but everything seems to be doing well. I have lost a few corals, Kenya Tree, two brains, devils hand and a hammer, but I think they got stung by something nearby.

I like the eclipes tamk but it was to small for my living room. So I hope I can get this 46 bow to work nicely. I brown algee is starting to grow on the front of the tank. Still have not got a tester yet :(

DEfinately time for a test kit and some snails.
How much live rock is in that other tank? How quickly are you planning on transfereing everything? Just make sure to not cause another cycle by dumping eberything in at once without knowing what kind of cycle you had in the 46. Have you been feeding the tank at all?

OH, much better off without the eclipse. The system is great for freshwater but a pain for salt. It is underfiltered, underlit, and requires funky modifications just to fit basic equipment on it. You've got a lot more flexibility not having the eclipse...or at least not having to just throw out the eclipse, IMO. Just not the best one for a saltwater tank of that size.
I like the bow

Thanks for all the feed back. The other tank has 4 lbs of live rock with some crushed coral. I have not put anything in the tank but the live sand and base rock. I will test the ph this Friday, I wanted to put the stuff from the other tank in as soon as I can. But I don't know when that is

Tested the water and everything is good. Brouth some snails and crabs, 5 each. Put them in the tank after I removed 3 red and black worms. I think their is a couple more but I could not get them out of the rocks. Should I worry about them? I read some where that I could put the rock in hot water to make them come out.
