ecosystem

we have one at work, i have nothing but good things to say about these systems, a little pricey but short of dumping straight ammonia in your tank it'll keep your fishies and corals and inverts very happy, water has been perfect for the life of the tank after the cycle, but i recommend taking out the bioballs after the cycle, there is no need for them after you cycle...

Hey tracklighter, I also have one. Its been running for about 2 1/2 months know, I know its still kinda early but everything seems to be doing really well. It is a bit pricey but I believe its worth it!

I have had mine for10 months and it seems to be keeping my water condition excellent, I check my water 2x a week and so far no amm, trites with .05 tates. My seaclone protien skimmer hasn't had any sludge for quite awhile so I'm removing it this weekend for good. Just be sure to keep your tank topped off, the only thing I hate about the ecosystem is the fact the sump sits so high in the water. i goot tons of 'pods in there with a very thick growth of calurpa

Cadbury, thanks. I hang out with slothy from this board too, he told me to contact you about the ecosystem. How deep is your DSB, they recommend only about 1-2 inches. I am going to have about 4-6 inches DSB. Does anyone know why ecosystems only want 1-2 inches of DSB?

the reason for the 1-2" DSB in the ecosystem is because of space, you'll be growing calurpa in there so you'll want more room...but then again, your tank, your choice.......besides having a 6" bed of miricle mud would be damn expensive

iceburger, I meant a 4-6 dsb in main tank, miracle mud will be in sump below. Ecosystem recommends only 1-2inch DSB in main tank and miracle mud below, for a 125 gallon tank your sump should have about 30lbs of mud in sump. I just wonder why they only want 1-2 inches in the main tank?
Here is the article on amount of miracle mud for each tank.

Thanks though:)

I stand corrected.
I'm not sure why they recommend, a 1-2" DSB, maybe it is because most aquariums with ecosystems are drilled and the sand will get into the overflow??? i dunno... just a guess

Hey Lou, thats right about the sand bed, I only have about 2 inches in most spots. It's all working out pretty good, if you want to check it out let me know?

Hey Cabury, me and Slothy will stop by tonight after 7pm, also thanks for the input iceburger. :)
I think ecosystem wants the miracle mud to do the breakdown of nutrients, instead of the DSB in main tank performing the breakdown, not sure but will keep looking into it.

You won't need any additional filtering with this filter when you get it up and running...very happy with mine. You can use a mirco type filter when you scrape your tank free of algae from the front and sides otherwise you won't even need a protien skimmer. I am extemely happy with mine...didn't trust and kept checking everything...amm 0, trites 0, tates .05 with a 75 gal and still looking for probs. So ar so good, you didn't waste your $

I am going to have about 4-6 inches DSB
ecosystem recommends that you have less than an 1" sandbed the reason being is that it competes with the mud and becomes a nutrient sink
