the best thing to do is shut the tank down and cure the rock. you can get a tub and make a rack w/ egg crate and put your lights and powerheads in there and cure your live rock some where else. you want to suficate the alge.

I don't get where people thought this would change anything. When the rock goes back into the tank, and the aquarist goes back to caring for the tank in the same manner, the algae will return. The answer lies with the caretaker..not the rocks.

I fully agree with promise. The algae is being fed by something. You need to get rid of the nutrient.
How old are your light bulb?
What is your water source (tap or RO)?
What is the phosphate of your source water?

That is incorrect. If the nutrients are removed from the aquarium, the algae will not be albe to live and grow.

That is not true either. If the nutrients are removed from the aquarium, the algae will not be albe to live and grow.

What?
RowaPhos works wonderfully at removing phosphate, but he needs to make sure it is phosphate first. For all we know, he could be using pure RO water.

I did'nt mean any offense. What is your phosphate reading, how much livestock, and how many clean-up crew inverts do you have? Does the tank have a sump, skimmer, refugium? Can you give as much info as possible? It could be feeding habits..please list that as well...what you feed , how often, etc. Sometimes it can be that the tank does'nt have enough flow to keep food and detritus in suspension to be removed by the skimmer. The use of a turkey baster to blow off your rocks before a water change can help. As you see there are so many variables, down to the TDS of the water you are using. The previous post was'nt directed at you specifically, I apologize...it's just the whole cooking rock theory..it gets me.

No, and i knwo i get critisized for this all the time but I dont use RO, I use tap. Its a long drive to the nearest place where i can get RO....no i dont have a walmart near me within a 3 hour drive...Ok, nwo that i got that out of the way....Uhm yeah I do not have a phosphate test, but plan to get one. i'LL LOOK INTO THAT STUFF FANKER, HEY CAN YOU GET OVER TO YOUR DADS TONIGHT YOU THINK? **sorry bout caps. I feed formula one, brine and krill to my fish and mostly just krill to my corals and inverts, other thanthe bottled additives.

Lol sorry promise, my bad. Shouldnt have taken any offense. But currently I do not have a photspate reading, as the test kit set which had it is expired. i use tap, I figure that could be a cource of my problem, lights are 2x65 w PCs and probably run for 11 hrs a day...trying to cut down on time slowly. I usually feed form 1 in the mornign and something meaty at night. i also feed silversides to my anemone. I run a HOB mainly just for water circulations, and have a rio powerhead...Not sure it's rating anymore, i could check if needed. I think i covered anything else, let me knwo if i didnt though.
