EEEK killer hermit!

i have 2 hermits in my 24g tank(just started it put them in to see if the tank could keep them alive)
the smaller hermit stopped moving today and just sits on a rock i knocked him off of it and he just crawled back up and stayed. i knocked him off again and he moved to the back of the tank
now the other crab has locked onto his shell and i dont know if hes eating him or what
ill post water conditions later

He is probly trying to get his shell, just make sure there is a shell for him to go into. I had hermits switch shells lots of times. Maybe they will just switch, without one getting killed. Good luck.

Always should keep a lot of empty shells in tank for the hermits to move... they get bored if they can't switch shells.

i got home today and found a dead hermit crab with no shell laying on the rock
it must have been the lack of extra shells or something

oh my god i just looked it the tank again and saw the dead hermit
and both the other shells occupied!!!!

did one of them molt?? the body has all of its color and parts so i dont think it molted

sounds like a molt to me...the molt looks exactly like a live hermit! its a very good idea to have some empty shells hangin around in the tank.

i just bought some bumble bee snails, and all of a sudden one of my hermits has a bumble bee snail shell home darn thing cost me $3 for a shell LOL.
i guess i need to take a ride to the shore and grab some more periwinkle shells. $30 in gas to save $3 snails

$30 in gas?! :scared: And here I was thimking that a 45 minute drive one way was a long drive to nearest SWF store. I need to get some shells for my hermits too..only thing is the store doesn't sell shells and with all of my recent purchases and tank still cycling the option of buying online isn't there.

Hopefully my turbos are faster than my blue legs untill I can afford to purchase some new shells.
