I am not sure what kind of eel...but its about 9" long, dk. green with a yellowish head....anyways, i brought home a juv. barracuda today and not 30min after i released the barracuda, the eel stalked it and followed it around the tank and attacked it. I saved the barracude and put the eel in a bucket with a rock...
i like the barracuda more...will the eel stay alive in a bucket with a couple gallons of water long?
any tips on this little situation, the barracuda has some wounds, but it doesnt seem to phase him...thanks guys.

How big is your tank? Not to be a killjoy but the barracuda is probably not going to last in your aquarium, they really need alot of space and tend to stress alot in captivity. The eel is either very, very, hungry or sensed that the cuda was ailing. How did you aclimate the cuda?

I'd return the cuda unless you have an insanely massive tank, they get huge and are not suited for the home aquarium. The eel is more than likely going to escape from the bucket and die, I'd put him back in the tank and keep him fed until you can return the cuda.

tank is a 150-175, my LFS told me that the cuda would be ok. The eel has never acted like that before. I feel really bad cause the eel is in a bucket with a rock...i dont know how long he will live, i am bringing him back to the fish store tommorrow around 11am...i hope he lives.
the LFS had the cuda, about 6" long and right now he is only eating live feeders. The LFS guy said he got his cuda eating silver sides in 2 weeks.
the cuda seems pretty chill for being in the jaws of and eel 45min ago

the cuda will be as long as your tank eventually... go to a new lfs if they told you he would be ok. Unless of course I am mistaken and there is some sort of dwarf cuda I am unaware of?

I agree with all of the above. Your LFS lied to you. Barracudas get humongous and need a ridiculously large body of water. Furthermore, most like and do better in groups.

I have to agree with all the posts above. Barracudas get big, they swim alot, are aggressive, and with all of that in mind they need a system way bigger than you can probable imagine of owning. Don't return the eel, return the Barracuda, and get the eel out of the bucket. Please do a little research before purchasing, it will help both you and the fish.

i kept the cuda...he is small and i have a place for him when he gets to big. The eel is gone cause he attacted my panther grouper last night. The cuda is doing just fine and keep in mind he is a baby....maybe 5-6" long at most. i figure ill keep him untill he gets to big or hungary and that will be that.

What are your plans for the cuda once it gets "too big or hungry"?

a friend of mine has a very large tank which is always an option...but for a cuda he seems really timid

How big? I don't think any "tank" can hold one because the max for glass or acyrlic is 1000g. Even a pond would be to small. Do you have a public aquarium around to give to?

give the cuda away to a better home...your tank isn't big enough for it.
desiring an exotic fish such as a cuda isn't enough, you really need to treat it well. afterall, these creatures are all from the wild and the ocean is huge. you're taking an animal that 1) grows rather large, 2) swims hella fast, and 3) came from the great big and vast ocean and sticking it in a 150 gallons...
life would be swell, if we all lived in 2x2 closets right?
you mean one thing to your lfs...$$$
and that's what the fish and livestock mean as well.
just remember that
