What do you think would be a good companion for a goldentail moray in a 50 gal? Im gonna be getting a snail/hermit clean up crew soon, so no crustacean eaters. I also have some polyp corals. Im thinking maybe a lion or a tang(algae grazer) as my next addition. :notsure:

Be careful putting a wrasse in with it... Most wrasses are long and skinny which makes a perfect meal for many eels.

I think a lion is perfect companion for an eel. Very rarely, do they eat hermits and snails. A 50 gallon may be to small for some species of lion.
Wrasses, on the otherhand, are really a crap shoot. Some will hunt down inverts relentlessly, others will eat them when convenient, and some leave them alone all together. Wrasses also have a tendancy to lie in the sandbed at night making them a target for an opportunistic eel. I've lost 2 wrasses to my Snowflake Eel. To be a Wrasse in my tank, you need to be on your toes.
You could do a plaktonic trigger *Size considerations, Filefish, Damsels, Reef Wrasses, etc.

Okay after some suggestions and further research these are the species I have narrowed down to my want list:
Blue Throat Trigger
Maroon Clown
Lunar Wrasse or Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse
Flame Hawk
Blue or Yellow Tang
Volitan Lion
Fu-Man-CHu Lion
Planktonic Angel
Obviously I cant have them all in my 50 gal. So which would you select to go with my goldentain and cleanup crew(snail/hermits only)?

i'd research each one on if it will eat inverts and use a compatabilty chart but with each fish has different personalitys so you never know what your gonna get a true terror or a wonderful easy to keep pet
