but i have also heard to feed it every two days.

Depends on the size of the Moray. Younger specimens would need to be fed more often, while adults can usually go with once a week.
And yes...feed until it refuses more food.

Hey AW, does that go for all eels? I was feeding my spotted eels and one went through 20 jumbo shrimp before I decided this was just never going to end. Each one of these shrimp were like 3" and the eels is still under 2'.
Aquaria, what kind of eel are you thinking of getting? I have a zebra and it will only eat once every week or 2. My more aggressive eels will eat all day, any day.

Are you talking about the snowflake in your avatar? Either way, eels breath like they are dying. They take heavy gulps of air/water because they don't breath like fish. They need to move the water through their gills forcefully.

I feed mine every 3-4 days, and he has to fight for his dinner along with the grouper, lion fish and puffer and sweet lips, there is enough left behind for him to scrounge, but he is fast and has learned to get in there and fight with the lion for his dinner.

That would depend much on what you think to be breathing so rapidly for eels can give you the idea that they seem at times doing so but in which is possibly normal as well. For if all its activities are normal to you, then you nothing to be concern of
If I had a video I could show you that its nothing to be of concern, not unless the eel is appearing as if its gasping for air, in which then you could have a problem, but also is a minor one.
Eels need a variety in their diet and boalgf, for what this be worth to you, I never feed only 20 shrimps for as in any one feeding for my own eels I feed them two types of foods and I change their meal the following with another two types of seafood's for which at most, I not so often feed the same type of food back to back (week).
For even young juvenile eels if are small fish eaters, one can feed them octopus. I feed octopus to my goldentails and when they reef tanks do become ready in which right now I little problem is there. I will be feeding octopus to the dwarf eels I will have. For one must try to put in their eels diet as much a variety in types of foods. This in the long term as all else one needs to do would prove far better for anyone's eels health.

Any suggestions with feeding my snowflake?
I use a feeding stick, but every time I try and get the krill close to him my blue striped (clarki) clown snatches the krill off of the stick and brings it to his annenome before the eel gets an opportunity to get to it. Its actually quite funny to watch, but sometimes, the eel will grab ahold of the clown or other fish mistaking it for the krill and I'm afraid he is going to hurt him.. although he usually lets go realizing that its too big for him (wasnt the case for my first clown, he was a colorfull lunch). He is probably about 18" or so, and somewhat skinny compared to some snowflakes I have seen, but he seems very healthy and I've had him for atleast 8mo. I usually feed either freeze dried krill or thawed silversides.
Thanks!

reedlog : I have to do 2 different things in my tank when feeding my eel. One is to get the emp angel away by feeding it on the side of the tank that the eel isn't on. The other is to use a net to keep my porc puffer away from the eel while I feed it. They are the only 2 fish that don't scatter when I put the net in. Chances are, if you put a net in the tank, the fish will all run and hide. At that point you can feed your zebra eel. If the fish get bold, just swish the net around a few times to remind them that you are there.
Aquaria: SFE's don't normally attack fish. They eat crustaceans.

aquaria, A SFE at that size it would be very unlikely for even as adult size SFE have little to no interest as well you hear something as such in rare blue moons for I have to wonder on of the people who said this happen been feeding their SFE for as in the wild its not so unheard of for one has to believe that there be quite a difference for regular tank feeding is often compare to out in the wild for which they will if they could swallow whole the fish which falls into their trap for which the SF waits for a non-expecting prey to pass closely by, Also in which their primarily diet is crustaceans and can be kept with small fish, just don`t make them too small for which there is a risk.

I feed my snowflake about every other day and feed him until he no longer wants to eat. He knows when he's full and will quit eating. For those that say a SFE won't eat another fish needs to see it in person. They will wrap their body around a fish and smother it then eat it. That's why I keep mine fed. Mine is about16" long and doesn't really bother anything, but let it get hungry and he goes to looking for something to eat. I have upon a number of occasions fed him out of my hand. Only been bitten like once or twice. Nothing bad though....

wilsonreef, No one ever said it wouldn't, only that in a home aquarium with regular feedings at most should leave the fish a lone for what as well would make much difference on how well you feed it other wise for if you don`t, it is bye bye little fish. It will swallow whole a small fish if hungry, no one ever said differ from it.

Where do you buy the large pieces of squid or other types of food. I have squid but it is in small frozen cubes (not large enough to put on a stick). Grocery store? bait and tackle store? thanks

I dont know if you have Publix grocery stores, but they sell whole squit at mine. I cut them in smaller bites and then re-freeze in flat packs (zip-lock bags). It was 11 bucks for 2.5 pounds and I would imagine would last at least 6 months to 1 year if it is just for feeding an eel (assuming that you are also feeding the eel other foods)
