is it possible to keep any type of eel in a reef? if so, lets see some pics if you have them. I've always liked them and would like to have one some day if it's possible...

I have seen some very big, healthy eels that have been in aquariums for 8 - 12 years....first time I hear of this statement. I know some are difficult to keep like the ribbon eels. But as far as eels in a reef.....Snowflakes, Zebra, Banded eels can be "fairly" safe in a reef.....they can eat smaller fish and inverts, but from questions I asked....answers I received...these are the ones that were recommended to me. Sorry, i have no pictures.

In a reef I would say no. They will eat anything that will fit in their mouths and if they get hungry they will go after just about anything.

I have heard of several people keeping snowflake eels in a reef but they would have to be well fed so they dont go after any inverts/fish.

It depends on what type of reef you are planning on.
They wont bother corals but will eat shrimps and small fish.

ya, i figured they'd eat small fish, but i wasn't sure about the inverts. I have a considerable amount of small fish and really don't want to loose any. I wanted to at least check though. lol, this hobby is expensive enough on its own

You can, but it would be a serious PITA.
If they get hungry they will eat your fish/shrimp and they grow fast and will knock over rocks all the time: scratching your aquarium and dumping corals under the sand.

had a snowflake in my reef for a year or so (no pics) it never went after any fish (along with my zebra that i have) it would leave shrimp alone but ate any crab in the tank . it would knock stuff over during feeding so i pulled it out. my zebra is far less aggressive during feeding and wouldnt knock anything over but would add a major amount of waste to the tank so if you have a 150 to 180 reef a zebra would be okay but probable eat shrimp and def eat any crabs
