Just wondering if anyone has an EEL in their reef. I love the snowflake, and have always wanted one in my reef, but I'm afraid of the consiquinces. I'm in a 125 w/30g refugium. 4 large tangs and 2 large butterflies....Any HORROR stories?

I have had a snowflake for about 3 months now and recently started adding corals,my eel could not care less about anything but his nightly swim along the tank and his silverslides(the only thing he will eat)Good luck!

Trust me Katara, that's not the only thing it will eat. The problem with eels, they love crabs. If you don't keep him fed, you will not have any left in your tank. I've had a zebra moray in my tank for a few months. They're very entertaining.

the thing with eels as long as you keep them fed they tend to not bother anything...The only problem is when they swim around they tend to go in and out of the rock structure so it is possible for your live rock to get toppled over(may hit glass or land on an expensive coral/invert ect) or may topple over an unsecure coral. Just make sure everything is secured or even glued together.
Good luck

The only problem ive had with my snowflake is that is has jumped out of my tank 2 times. Luckily i saw it both times! Make sure your tank has a good cover!!! Never bothers the corals, fish, snails or crabs i have in the tank.

My snowflake has a bad habit of stirring up the sand and making the water cloudy by trying to make "trails" through the rock.

Katfish, mine does the exact same thing. I think mine does it KNOWING it irritates me, hehe. I keep him well fed and all my inverts are safe.

I have a GHOST RIBBON EEL and it is fine, has not knocked over anything and I feed him silversides everyday. The only way he eats is if I hand feed him.

Thanks guys,,,I guess all the horror stories you hear at the LFS and online are B.S. then. Guess I'll be able to have my prized snowflake after all...Thanks again for clearing it up for me... :)

there fine in reef tanks.a fellow reefer i know keeps his 15in in a 55 with fire fish, chromis and clowns and a blue damsel.the eel only attacks the damsel because it annoys him(the eel killed his other 3 stripe).o and he feeds it squid.

Well guys I did it. I went and bought a baby snowflake today. Thanx for all the info though. I'll just wait and see what happens. Hopefully all will be well. Sneaky little sucker though. I was acclimating him and after adding water to the bag I surfed the posts for 5 min, went back to check on him and the sucker snuck out of the bag (which was hanging from a hook with the top 6in above the water) and was swimming around the bottom of the tank. Gotta watch this one. Think I'll call him Copperfield!! Wish us luck! :)

Hi, we had our snowflake in our reef for about 9 monthes and got tired of him collapsing our rock structures, ours would go under the rocks and swish his tail and eventually the rocks would tumble once all the sand was removed. We did move him to our two hundred gallon with only live rock and LS no corals. Get ready for him to grow, we got our first one 14 months ago and he was a foot then, now he is three foot long, our other snowy was smaller than a pencil when we got him 8-9 monthes ago and now he is about 20 inches long. These are my fav eels but I myself would not put another in a reef again. once there in there good luck getting them out, we had to take out everything to catch him. good luck with him..fixit :)
