I have a freshwater (brackish) eel, it ties itself in knots all the time when I drop some shrimp in and it grabs one.

A good many moray species use that technic in trying to prevent their prey from escaping them :scared:

What are you feeding? It looks like whole octopus. If they are frozen what kind of store did you go to to get them?

You can get frozen octopus from fish markets mostly for I have to buy baby octopus by the boxes of #24 that the octopus are frozen in #2 packages. (# this means lbs) as the #24 box cost me just under $160.00 for some places may be able to get it, but they not sell it as much so one would have to be willing to buy the whole box.

In nature Moray Eels will lunge out of their hiding place and knot up like that on an octopus and does this for several seconds. They will then let go and only take a tentacle or two.
Hope this helps!!

Arlene1995, eels not just lunge out as if mindless creatures for this know that they a better chance of success in catching their prey by getting as close as they can before they make that lunge and only taking a tentacle or two, that would very much depend on the size of the octopus and moray for the largest baby octopus I get, my male dragon swallows it with no problems.
