i want to turn my 75 into an aggressive tank. i'd like a puffer, trigger, and lionfish, but at the top of the list eels

is anything in that list gonna have a problem being in the same tank? i was also wondering if there are any eels of different species that are ok together. or are there at least some species of eels that you can have more than one of in the same tank? thank you muchos much

at my LFS, they had one tank with a Snowflake Eel and a Zebra Eel in the one. And in another they had a Dragon Moray with a Snowflake. And the snowflake was much smaller than the Dragon. As long as there is enough caves and room for the 2 eels to have their own area, I have seen it work. They didn't have any fish in those tanks, just coral. So i am not sure on what kind of fish. I would think as long as they are bigger than the eels mouth.
oh, and I know SFE are crab killers. My friend's SFE ate all his crabs. and his shrimp, I think they rarely eat fish

that's happy to hear. do you guys know if any agressive fish would attack the eels? i guess they could always go back and hide under the rock (i have about 50-60 lbs) but i'm worried about them getting a chance to eat with a buch of big hungry fish swimming up top

Puffers and triggers should not be mixed with lions. SFE and zebras work well together although the zebra will outgrow the tank. The dragon and sfe is a time-bomb waiting to go off. I have a japanese dragon in a 150- anything other than inverts is seen as a potential snack. SFE and or a goldentail would work well in a 75. Which type of lion were you looking to put in?

I had an undulated trigger (maybe 4") who beat the crap out of my very mature (26") very aggressive tesselata eel. He more of less went at his tail. I wouldn't suggest putting these two together.

i like good old volitan lion fish but i'd be happy if any kind was compatible. would a green wolf be ok with others?

i was worried about all that. are other triggers better at sharing the waters? i like the niger trigger but are they all equally aggressive?

A volitan will outgrow a 75, a radiatta would work if you can find one. Triggers and lions do not mix. Triggers can and do kill lions or if the lion is much larger it may eat the trigger. I've never kept a green wolf but it will work in a 75. Have you thought about a species only tank, it would open up some options concerning piscivorous eels.

I have a 8" Volitan lion, 3" picasso trigger, 24" jeweled moray, and 18" goldentail moray in the same tank. Havn't had any problems (hopefully it stays that way).

truthfully what the deal was is that my wifey said she'd be cool with me setting up my 75 and spending money that i really probably shouldn't be spending yet and getting a "gross" eel, just as long as she could have a porcupine puffer.
how would you rank a puffer’s aggression to that of a trigger or lion fish?
it says on this website that the clown trigger is aggressive but the niger isn't as bad. being the swf noob i am i'm not sure how big of a difference or how heavy the weight is between what they term as "bold, semi-aggressive, aggressive" and whatever else.

oh yeah and we went to the aquatic refuge place here in slc yesterday and saw a frogfish crawling around in his tank. that is one of the coolest fish i've ever seen.
is there any way i can dream of plopping one of those guys in my tank or do i need to throw that idea out? if i could, what order of adding fish would be best?

Lions are really a passive fish, they just eat any fish that can fit in their mouth- thus being placed in the aggressive category. The least aggressive triggers are bluejaw, niger, pinktail, and crosshatch. The less aggressive triggers jaws are rounded and the more aggressive have a "v" shaped jaw(there is a term for it but I cannot remember. The aggressive triggers are generally peaceful until they mature. I had a picasso that was a model citizen until it reached 4-5 inches, it then turned into unrelenting killer. Porcs aren't a good mix with lions because they will break off their spines the same as a trigger. Porcs also get very large and have a tendency to take bites out of their tankmates. One of the toby puffers would be a better fit for a 75. Don't know much about frogfish but I'm pretty sure they need a species tank. Send Saxman or Cranberry a pm on the frogfish, they should be able to answer any questions.
