i have seen this done before and havent seen anyone have problems
i have a pretty big black edge eel, he hides all day and all night, only comes out if im feeding
would there be a problem in keeping it in my tank when i re-do it to a reef?

The main problem I can see is him knocking stuff around when it moves at night. An eel is also messy and could affect water quality, but then again the tiny bits of food in stuff could also feed corals too. Make sure everything is secure and have a really good skimmer.

My biggest concern would be him knocking rocks and corals off. Also if one of your fish swim to close he might think its a meal :)

I had a snow flake eel in my reef tank before. They are not really a problem, per se , but they tend to stress out bottom dwelling creatures to death.(gobies, shrimp, etc.). They are pretty elegant, but they do tend to bump into thing (mine's bump into my carpet anemone:notsure: he survived) because they have bad eye sight. In the long run it is a bad idea to have one.The marine Center online fish store
