Effect of clean-up crew on bio load

I what ways do shrimp, snails, and small hermits effect the bio load of a tank? I understand the effects of cleaning, but cam too large of a crew decrease the amount of fish that you can keep?

I am no expert but I would imagine that the more efficent the clean up crew is the larger bio load. With detris and other organic compounds being taken care of it would make sense that the system could handle more
