MH will definatly melt eggcrate.
Just move the light up a bit. Keep an eye on it one day while your home for a few hours with the lights on to ensure your ok and your golden.

From personal experience I have 250 watts MH and they are about inches 4 inches over my egg crate and they have not done anything to it and I run my lights for over 6 hrs a day. So I think you should be fine but like anyhing else it never hurts to keep your eyes on things.

Like so many things in this addiction! You have to do a little expermenting on your own! Put the eggcrate on, if it starts to show signs of warping, you will need a plan to move the lights higher, you many need a new canopy built! Hope everything works out for you!
