Electric Flame Scallop

A guy near me is selling off his tank and all of his stock. He has an electric flame scallop that he has had for about six months. It is really beautiful and from what I read, suitable for my reef tank.
Anyone have one? I know they are notoriously bad feeders, but the guy "says" he spot feeds it and gives it phytoplankton and marine snow. It is large and very beautiful. He also does some element supplementation, which I do already. I'm anxious to hear some thoughts.

I wanted to get one but after reading about them everyone says they hide behind rocks and die very easily, so I never got one. It sounds like the supplemental feedings are doing well if he has had it for so long. Maybe sticking to his feeding regimen would keep it healthy. If you want it, than give it a try. Carrie

Thanks. His gets into a little cave that he has right in front, so you can still see it plainly.
How do you tell a healthy scallop? It just seems like shell and tentacles to me. He's had it six months, but from this site I have learned that when star fish starve because of an inadequate environment, it can take six or even eight months.
Anyway, thanks for the information.

we have had 2 flame scallops the first one was an impulse buy when we started our first tank he lasted about 2 months our second lasted almost 2 years but got hung up on a tank decoration and broke his shell and he died other than that on the second one he was very healthy just filter feeding from our tank we added marine snow like once a week

we had one in a 45 for almost 2 years. From what I've read that's pretty impressive. I'd like to know if anyone else has had long periods of success. I'd stay away from anything that has a short life expectency in captivation. Plus they make a mess when they die.
