hello all... today was my frist day of school and academy of the arts, so after i decided to go to my LFS to celebrate... They had an electric flame scollop for only 15 bucks!! it was soo cool!!!
i resisted the impulse buy and decided to ask all you experienced people what you know about it. so... what do you know about it? lol. I have phyloplankton to feed it too.

It is effectively the same as a flame scallop, so the same care and potentially poor long term survival in many tanks. Also may hide.

hmmm... why do they potentialy have poor survival rates? starvation? or is it another one of those mysteries to the aquarium trade?
you said they have the same care needs.... what would those be necessarily? I just want to make sure that i do not overlookk anything

for some reason another popular online distributer listed a flame scollop as difficult, while an electric flame as "moderate"......
what makes them specialy harder to keep as long as i have good water quality and i feed them phylo, are there any other ocmplications?

it has to do with the particle size that it can ingest, this is not provided by phyto, I have a flame scallop and put frozen rotifers in the tank from time to time.

oh i see, i thought that they were a fine filter feeder like other molusks like a clam. So if i fed frozen foods, and jsut injected it near the clam, they would have enough food to eat that way?
Do you have any info on yours fishamajig? Do you enjoy them? Any problems? how long have you had it?

i have had him for a while now but it is rather boring and found a place to hide inbetween rocks where you can hardly find him. not that fun all in all

im afraid that that might happen. However my tank is directly next to my bed so i can stare into it at night. So i think it would be amazing to see the little electrical-like pulses if he establishes himself near the glass.
is there any specific diet that you knwo of? Or any frozen foods?

i have had luck with hikari frozen rotifers but I cand definately CONFIRM it works, the scallop looks moderately healthy and i dose the tank rotifers anyway so I guess it works.

Thanks Orph! i actualy found that artile this morning during one of my free periods at school. I found it to be very very informative. Although i do have spray dried phyloplankton to feed it, and could also get the oyster eggs easily, i do not think i will attempt a flame scallop just yet. They are beautiful, and i would love to have one in my tank, esspecialy one of the electric ones, to see at night. They are also inexpensive, and although i am up to the challenge of feeding them, knowing that they do not ingest most of the food that they capture did deter me. Also i do not have a deep sand bed so that would be another complication without natural larva to help out. Although i would love to have one in my tank, i would not be able to starve creature even if i didnt know i was doing it. That was the part that i was most concerned with. So i decided that i will not get one at the moment.
thank you very very much everyone for your time and experience

I know this post is a little old but if you still check on it just to let you know that mine didnt light up at night, only when the light was on. It was cool in the light but it did die. I put oyster eggs, among all other kinds of filter feeder foods but still no luck.
